Converting Infrared Light Into an X-Ray Beam (1 of 3)

Such rainbows of colors, can support extremely short, few attosecond, light pulses - one attosecond is the time it takes for light to travel the length of three hydrogen atoms. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the June 8, 2012, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by T. Popmintchev at the University of Colorado at Boulder in Boulder, CO, and colleagues was titled, “Bright Coherent Ultrahigh Harmonics in the keV X-ray Regime from Mid-Infrared Femtosecond Lasers.” view more
