Monticello Fire in California

image: The Monticello fire is in the same general area as the Butts fire and the same fire team is fighting both fires. This fire is 5 miles west of Winters, Calif. There is moderate fire behavior and the main fuel is grass. There have been no structures lost in the Monticello fire in California, although structures are still being threatened at this time. Evacuations are in effect in this area. It is currently 30 percent contained.

This natural-color satellite image was collected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer aboard the Terra satellite on July 5, 2014. Actively burning areas, detected by MODIS's thermal bands, are outlined in red. view more
