Subtropical Storm Debby Not Expected to Make a Splash

image:

Subtropical Storm Debby formed in the North Atlantic on Aug. 07, 2018, but is expected to be a short-lived storm. With her location about 1160 miles west of the Azores there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. There are no hazards affecting any land masses.

The storm is moving toward the north near 16 mph (26 km/h), and this general motion with a decrease in forward speed is expected during the next 24 hours. A gradual turn to the northeast is anticipated thereafter. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Debby is forecast to dissipate in a couple of days.

Winds of 40 mph extend outward up to 160 miles (260 km) to the northeast of the center.
