科研人员量化了2018年2月20日到2018年3月15日之间使用无人机飞过亚马逊地区中部高原和坡面森林收集到的大气排放样本中的挥发性有机化合物（VOC）浓度，结果发现在高原森林的近林冠大气的异戊二烯浓度比坡面森林大60%，这提示，根据样本收集和测量的不同，挥发性有机化合物浓度估计可能有偏差。
