为了更好地理解在更新世的末次冰期的后期诱导产生了极端气候变化的新仙女木事件的机制,科研人员分析了全球各地洞穴化学淀积物样本的同位素属性以及极地冰芯记录,结果发现了新仙女木事件在扩展到热带季风带之前始于北半球高纬度;这组作者说,新仙女木事件在到达南极洲后开始终结,在南极它逆转了路径并且在西热带太平洋呈现出了拉尼娜样的特性。
