科研人员报告了三种消耗臭氧的氢氯氟烃的全球丰富程度与排放,其中一种是近来发现的,它们全都受到《蒙特利尔议定书》的管制,而且它们都没有已知的有目的的使用;其中两种化合物的主要排放源在亚洲,而这些化合物是作为氟碳化合物工业的中间产物而被释放出来的理论受到了法国在关闭了那里的一个氟碳化合物生产设施之后排放停止的支持。
