For Crystals, a Strictly Physical Formaton (1 of 4)

image: This figure links together proteome, transcriptome and metabolome datapresented in three papers from this issue describing a in depth look at the minimal bacteria Mycoplasma pneumoniae. It shows physical interactions detected by Kuehner et al. between the ribosome (the 3-D density figure in the center) and proteins within the reconstructed metabolic map of Yus et al. Blue regions on the map correspond to genes determined to lie within an operon as described by Guell et al. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Nov. 27 issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. H. Li of the Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, and colleagues, was titled, "Visualizing the 3-D Internal Structure of Calcite Single Crystals Grown in Agarose Hydrogels.” view more
