The Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC) is pleased to announce a new certification for Healthcare Associates that includes medical assistants, nursing assistants and physical/occupational therapy assistants who are trained and educated to practice, but not licensed, and have worked in MS for at least one year.
The first MSHA Certification Examination will take place during the 2018 CMSC Annual Meeting, May 30 -June 2, at the Music City Center in Nashville, TN, the largest educational conference and professional development event for all healthcare clinicians, researchers, scientists and professionals in trainings engaged in the MS field.
The onsite exam will take place on May 30th and healthcare associates from all over the world will have the opportunity to take this 2-hour examination and be knowledgeable and certified on how to provide optimal care to those individuals and families living with multiple sclerosis. The new MS Healthcare Associate (MSHA) Certification Examination was developed by CMSC in collaboration with Professional Testing Corporation. The exam will also be offered at hundreds of computer test centers during the August 4-18, 2018 summer testing period.
"The complexity of MS and that it is a lifelong neurological disease illness, requires a unique level of treatment and specialized care. This certification program helps people with MS and their families know that they are receiving optimal care from a healthcare associate," said June Halper, Chief Executive Officer, CMSC.
This new examination for all non-licensed, educated and trained medical personnel working in MS will cover the fundamentals of MS including disease process, diagnosis, and the diseases clinical course and natural history. The bulk of the exam will focus on the multidisciplinary management of MS including DMTs, symptoms of MS, rehabilitation strategies, pharmacologic interventions, psychosocial issues as well as health maintenance and models of care. The exam also includes knowledge of patient empowerment, advocacy and family education.
