对65名婴儿的一项研究发现，尽管婴儿注视对可能的事件的描绘的时长超过注视可能的事件的时间的程度存在变化性，在11个月龄和17个月龄评估的时候，婴儿个体的这种变化性稳定；对预期外的事件的响应也预测了3岁时候的基于解释的好奇心，这组作者说，这提示在婴儿期探测预测误差可能与之后的认知能力有关联。
