Flock of Feathers Preserved in Cretaceous Amber (10 of 10)

image: An isolated barb from a vaned feather, trapped within a tangled mass of spider’s web in Late Cretaceous Canadian amber (specimen UALVP 52820). Pigment distribution within this feather fragment suggests that the barb may have been gray or black. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Sept. 16, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. R.C. McKellar of University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB, Canada, and colleagues was titled, "A Diverse Assemblage of Late Cretaceous Dinosaur and Bird Feathers from Canadian Amber.” view more
