Getting to the Root of Plant Adaptation (6 of 7)

image: A variant in TTG1 (transparent test glabra) is strongly correlated with temperature seasonality. The gene is involved in purple anthocyanin production, trichome patterning and epidermal cell fate specification, three phenotypes that are likely to play roles in both leaf temperature regulation and UV damage. This image shows the interpolated distribution of the TTG1 variant. Frequencies range from 0 (blue) to 0.8 (red). This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Oct. 07, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Dr. A.M. Hancock of University of Chicago in Chicago, Ill., and colleagues, was titled, “Adaptation to Climate Across the Arabidopsis thaliana Genome.” view more
