Internal Compass Guides Glass Eels As They Swim, In Time with the Tides (4 of 15)

image: Anguilla Anguilla. European eels caught along the Norwegian coast during the growth phase of their life cycle. Eels can grow to 1 meter in length and weigh 3 kilograms. Due to their slime coating, they can remain alive for many hours out of the water. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the June 09, 2017, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by A. Cresci at Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science in Miami, Fla., and colleagues was titled, "Glass eels (Anguilla Anguilla) have a magnetic compass linked to the tidal cycle." view more
