Reston, VA (April 11, 2025)—New research has been published ahead-of-print by The Journal of Nuclear Medicine (JNM). JNM is published by the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, an international scientific and medical organization dedicated to advancing nuclear medicine, molecular imaging, and theranostics—precision medicine that allows diagnosis and treatment to be tailored to individual patients in order to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Summaries of the newly published research articles are provided below.
Tracing Prostate Cancer Beyond the Usual Path
Researchers uncovered rare cases of prostate cancer spreading to the testicles using advanced PSMA PET/CT scans. In a review of nearly 100 patients, six showed hidden metastases despite normal ultrasounds. These unexpected findings could change how doctors monitor recurring prostate cancer in men after initial treatment.
Clear PET Scans with Less Radiation
A new ultra-low-dose PET scanning method using long-axial-field-of-view technology and a CT-free correction technique (LSO-TX) produced high-quality images in just 20–30 minutes. By harnessing background radiation from scanner materials, this approach may reduce radiation exposure without compromising diagnostic image quality in cancer and metabolic imaging.
