Yue Yu, professor of mathematics at Lehigh University, has been named a 2025 recipient of the prestigious Gallagher Young Investigator Award by the U.S. Association for Computational Mechanics (USACM). This award recognizes Yu’s innovative contributions in numerical methods and AI-based physics modeling within computational mechanics, particularly her pioneering work in data-driven nonlocal models.

Yu’s research focuses on scientific machine learning (SciML) and numerical analysis for high-order methods, with an emphasis on developing mathematical and numerical models for complex physical and biological systems. Her work is particularly notable for integrating mathematical analysis into the design and evaluation of innovative computational models.

"Professor Yu's research is both groundbreaking and broad," said Terry Napier, chair of the Department of Mathematics at Lehigh University.  “In particular, she has quickly become a leader in the field of computational mechanics, and we are delighted to see her receive this well-deserved recognition.”

The award will be presented at the 18th U.S. National Congress on Computational Mechanics, scheduled for July 20-24, 2025, in Chicago, Illinois.

The Gallagher Young Investigator Award honors exceptional accomplishments by researchers aged 40 or younger who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the field, especially through published work. The award, which consists of a silver medal and a $1,500 honorarium, is supported by John Wiley & Sons, publisher of the International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, in memory of Richard H. Gallagher, a co-founder of the journal.
