(Boston)—Craig Noronha, MD, associate chief for education and a clinical associate professor of medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, has been elected to the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM) Council. As a councilor, he will be involved in the organization’s many efforts including advocacy, program development and faculty development.
Noronha also is associate program director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Boston Medical Center and has held key leadership positions in residency education, including director of ambulatory education, director of quality improvement and patient safety education and director of professional development. He currently co-leads a Department of Medicine initiative aimed at improving feedback exchange across all departmental members.
His educational scholarship spans faculty development, residency scheduling, professionalism, and feedback, and he has presented numerous educational workshops at the national level.
A member of APDIM for more than 13 years, Noronha ran for this position to continue serving and give back to APDIM, its members and the broader Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine organization. “As residency leaders, we have the responsibility to train the future of internal medicine. APDIM is crucial for this mission, providing a platform for professional development, networking and collaboration. Being elected a member of the Council will allow me to build upon the robust opportunities available to medical educators,” he explained.
Noronha previously served on the APDIM Program Planning Committee, where he gained insight into the specific needs of chief medical residents, faculty, associate program directors and program directors.
Founded in 1977, APDIM is the international organization of accredited internal medicine residency programs; the association represents program directors, associate and assistant program directors, core faculty, program administrators and coordinators, fellowship coordinators, and other key faculty and staff involved in the internal medicine residency program. APDIM advances internal medicine education through innovation, scholarship and community building.
