Cold Spring Harbor, NY – Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press (CSHL Press) has announced the appointment of new editorial leadership at its renowned journal, Genes & Development. Professor Andrew Dillin has been named Editor-in-Chief, and Dr. Eric Sawey becomes Executive Editor.

These changes are associated with an intentional expansion of the journal’s scope into new and exciting aspects of life science research. While the journal remains committed to its traditional areas of coverage, it will also actively foster additional dynamic fields including physiology, metabolism, aging, gene and environmental interactions, and molecular neuroscience. Genes & Development will remain at the forefront of groundbreaking discoveries within the broad scope of molecular and cellular biology.

Professor Dillin, a distinguished scientist in the field of aging research, brings a wealth of expertise and an innovative vision to the journal. A Howard Hughes Medical Investigator and professor of genetics, genomics, and development at the University of California, Berkeley, Professor Dillin’s research has focused on studying the impact of aging on whole-organism physiology. His groundbreaking work delves into the loss of proteome control, the communication of these effects across cell types within tissues, and the developmental processes underlying neurodegenerative diseases.

Joining Dillin is new Executive Editor Dr. Eric Sawey. Dr. Sawey began his editorial career as Scientific Editor at Journal of Experimental Medicine and Genes & Development. In 2021, he became Executive Editor of Life Science Alliance, which prospered under his leadership and is now well established. Dr. Sawey joins Assistant Editor Dr. Samantha Cyrill and long-time journal administrator Bibi Garite to run the in-house editorial team.

“I am excited about this new era in the evolution of the Laboratory’s first journal. It was founded to publish important science and has a long and distinctive record of doing so,” said Dr. John Inglis, Executive Director and Publisher of CSHL Press. “With its new editorial leadership, expanded scope, and continued dedication to high-quality research and service to scientists, the journal will be a home for reports of the next generation of extraordinary discoveries.”

Genes & Development is a noncommercial journal published by CSHL Press, a division of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, an innovator in life science research, the education of scientists, and the communication of science.  In 2023, Genes & Development ranked in the top 4% of journals publishing developmental biology papers, and in the top 10% of journals publishing cell biology papers.
