The “São Paulo School of Advanced Science in Precision Health: Building bridges between veterinary and human medicine” will be held on July 17-30, 2025, at the Institute of Biosciences (IB) of the São Paulo State University (UNESP) in its Botucatu campus, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.

Reporters are invited to register for the scientific sessions and short courses, which will present state-of-the-art science and the results of new research.

The School aims to provide in-depth learning in themes relevant to precision health via a broad One Health vision and a translational and comparative approach which could bring precision health’s state-of-the-art to the fore. The School’s program features the participation of world-class scientists and also of health startups founders, adding to the school’s overall innovative approach as proposed by its organizing committe.

The discussions at the School will benefit greatly from the participation of internationally renowned researchers as speakers, such as:

  • Alexander Birbrair – Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA), where he is based at the Dermatology Research Laboratory carrying out research with the ultimate goal of identifying novel potential cellular and molecular targets for cancer therapy;
  • David John Argyle – Vice Principal and Head of College of Medicine & Veterinary at the University of Glasgow (UK), a recognised specialist in veterinary oncology whose major interests are cancer biology and comparative oncology;
  • Chiara Palmieri – Professor in Veterinary Pathology at the School of Veterinary Science of the University of Queensland (Australia). Palmieri also co-coordinates the Global Initiative for Veterinary Cancer Surveillance (GIVCS) committee for the establishment of international standards of veterinary cancer registration; she has a specific research interest is small animal oncology and veterinary oncoepidemiology.

Students will have the chance to interact with speakers and event organizers by taking part in small groups or by presentation of the submitted summaries through speech or poster sessions.

The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) is supporting the event through its São Paulo School of Advanced Science Program (SPSAS http://espca.fapesp.br/home). Applications are free of charges; besides, all expenses will be covered by the event organization. To apply, candidates must fill out an application form available at the school’s website by March 17, 2025.

The School is expecting to select 100 students, half from Brazilian universities and half from abroad. The School’s audience is directed at Master and PhD students, as well as young and postdoctoral researchers coming from multiple fields of knowledge and who are currently conducting a research project in veterinary and human medicine
