January 16, 2025 – New York, NY – The International Alliance for Primary Immunodeficiency Societies (IAPIDS) and Rockefeller University Press (RUP) have entered a partnership to launch Journal of Human Immunity (JHI), the official open access journal of IAPIDS. This collaboration will ensure that JHI emerges as the destination for exciting research into human immunity, with a particular focus on inborn errors of immunity.
“The Journal of Human Immunity represents a bold step forward in advancing our study of human immunity through the lens of the growing list of genetic defects and their multiple consequences,” said IAPIDS President Elie Haddad, a clinician-researcher in pediatric immunology, full professor at the University of Montreal, and head of the Immunology and Rheumatology department at CHU Ste-Justine. “IAPIDS is proud to partner with Rockefeller University Press to establish JHI as the global leader in the field, ensuring equitable access to groundbreaking research through its open access model.”
IAPIDS core member societies include the African Society for Immunodeficiencies (ASID), Asia Pacific Society for Immunodeficiencies (APSID), Clinical Immunology Society (CIS), European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID), and the Latin American Society for Immunodeficiencies (LASID). “Our member societies recognized the need for a journal that would fully align with our mission and values,” Haddad explained. “The creation of JHI is a direct response to that need, and we see it as an exciting opportunity to shape the future of the field.”
JHI is led by Editor-in-Chief Jean-Laurent Casanova, MD, PhD, the Levy Family Professor at The Rockefeller University and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator. Dr. Casanova notes that JHI is positioned to leverage the expertise of a world-class editorial team.
“Our editorial team—all of whom have a proven track record of scientist and editor—is committed to making JHI the go-to publication for novel insights into the physiology and pathology of human immunity through the study of genetic defects,” Dr. Casanova said. “With the support of RUP and IAPIDS, we are confident that JHI will quickly establish itself as an indispensable resource for researchers and clinicians alike.”
The journal will publish original research articles, reviews, letters, editorials, and commentaries. Its scope will encompass conditions influenced by inborn errors of immunity, including infections, autoimmunity, autoinflammation, malignancy, and allergies. By embracing a diverse editorial leadership and fostering international collaboration, JHI aims to attract top-tier submissions and engage a broad readership across the global scientific community and practicing clinicians.

The journal’s open access model will ensure that all content is freely available to readers worldwide, with competitive article processing charges (APCs), discounted for members of IAPIDS societies, and fully waived for corresponding authors from lower- and middle-income countries. This commitment aligns with JHI's mission to reduce barriers to knowledge dissemination and foster inclusivity within the global scientific community.
