TAMPA, Fla. (Jan. 7, 2025) — Tiffany Carson, Ph.D., co-leader of Health Outcomes and Behavior Program at Moffitt Cancer Center, has been elected as a Fellow in the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research (ABMR), recognizing her outstanding contributions to the field of behavioral medicine.
The academy is an exclusive organization that honors individuals who have demonstrated excellence in research, practice and leadership within the domain of behavioral medicine. Fellows are selected for their sustained and significant impact on the advancement of behavioral health research and its application to clinical practice and policy.
Carson has made significant strides in cancer prevention and reducing racial disparities in obesity and cancer, primarily by helping individuals achieve healthier weights. Her research includes evaluating the DASH dietary pattern for its potential to reduce colorectal cancer risk and leading a behavioral intervention to promote healthy weight and stress management among Black women with obesity and elevated stress. This research has not only contributed to a deeper understanding of the psychological factors that influence physical health, but also to the development of evidence-based interventions that improve patient outcomes.
“I am deeply honored to be elected as a Fellow in the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research,” Carson said. “This recognition reflects not just my work, but the collective effort of my colleagues, mentors, patients and the community members who have inspired my research. Behavioral medicine is an interdisciplinary field that is essential to improving patient care and the health of community members, and I am excited to continue contributing to its growth.”
As a Fellow of the academy, Carson will join an esteemed group of researchers and clinicians who are shaping the future of health care. The organization provides a platform for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing among experts dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of behavioral health issues.
