The annual meeting for the American Physical Society’s Division of Fluid Dynamics will begin in less than two weeks, featuring presentations on new research in wind energy, bio-inspired fluid mechanics, environmental flows, and more. The conference will be held in person at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah from Nov. 24-26.
Scientific program
The scientific program includes more than 300 sessions and nearly 2,800 presentations on a wide range of topics, including bio-inspired floating offshore wind farms, harbor seals’ whisker sensing abilities, and Manu jumping. Browse the selection of newsworthy presentations below or search the scientific program for more information. All times are in U.S. Mountain time.

Gallery of Fluid Motion
The annual Gallery of Fluid Motion — a visual arts competition and exhibition that illustrates the science and beauty of fluid motion through posters and videos — will be on display at the conference. Winners will be recognized in a ceremony on Nov. 25 at 3:45 p.m. MT.
Select sculptures, pictures, and videos from past Gallery of Fluid Motion entries, as well as a selection of Leonardo da Vinci’s sketches, are available for viewing in a new exhibition called “Spiraling Upwards” at the Leonardo Museum of Creativity and Innovation in Salt Lake City, Utah from Nov. 1, 2024 to Jan. 31, 2025. Press registrants may join other meeting attendees for a free, private museum visit on Nov. 25 at 6:30 p.m. MT.
Press registration
Journalists, science writers, public information officers, and students enrolled in a science writing program may register for the meeting at no cost. To request press credentials, visit APS’ online newsroom. Press registration will remain open throughout the meeting.
