East Hanover, NJ – November 7, 2024 – Yael Goverover, OTR/L, PhD, a visiting scientist in the Centers for Neuropsychology, Neuroscience, and Multiple Sclerosis Research at Kessler Foundation, was honored with the title of Fellow of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM). She received this award at the organization’s annual conference in Dallas last week. Dr. Goverover, also a professor at New York University, was conferred the title by the ACRM Fellows Committee and Board of Governors. The FACRM title acknowledges Dr. Goverover’s outstanding record of professional service to ACRM and her nationally significant contributions to the field of medical rehabilitation.
Dr. Goverover joins an elite group of professionals at Kessler Foundation who have earned the Fellow of ACRM designation, including John DeLuca, PhD; Jeanne Zanca, MPT, PhD; Ekaterina Dobryakova, PhD; and Denise Fyffe, PhD, who was awarded the title last year.
Dr. Goverover’s career has been marked by her influential research and dedication to advancing cognitive rehabilitation for individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS) and acquired brain injury (ABI). Her work has shed light on the cognitive challenges faced by individuals with MS and ABI and has examined the critical links between cognitive impairments and occupational performance. Her efforts have led to the development of innovative assessments and interventions that improve daily functioning for those with cognitive impairments.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Goverover has received over $3 million in competitive research funding from sources such as the National Institutes of Health and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications, contributed several book chapters, and shared her research at prominent national and international conferences.
“Dr. Goverover’s work has made significant strides in the understanding and treatment of cognitive impairments related to MS and ABI,” said Dr. DeLuca, senior vice president of Research and Training at Kessler Foundation. “Her contributions have elevated occupational therapy within cognitive rehabilitation and have provided valuable insights that improve lives.”
In addition to her academic achievements, Dr. Goverover has held key leadership roles within ACRM, including serving as a member of the Neurodegenerative Diseases Networking Group (NDNG) since 2020 and co-chairing its cognitive rehabilitation task force since 2022. Her co-creation of the cognitive rehabilitation task force with Dr. DeLuca has strengthened the focus in the MS community, underscoring her dedication to interdisciplinary collaboration and her commitment to advancing treatment for cognitive impairments.
