Reflecting China's growing presence in international science communication, Advances in Atmospheric Sciences (AAS) and Advances in Oceanic and Atmospheric Science Letters (AOSL), two English journals hosted by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), were recently acknowledged for their impact in global media. Both journals were highlighted in the 2024 China English-Language Scientific Journal Overseas Media Influence Report, with AAS and AOSL achieving notable rankings for their international reach.
The Report, published by the Institute of Media Integration and Thematic Publishing of Hangzhou Dianzi University, Society of China University Journals, and ImpactX, assessed English-language journals hosted by Chinese institutions. It measured media visibility across major international news and social media platforms (X, Facebook, YouTube, Reddit) for articles published in 2023, using data provided by Altmetric.
AAS ranked third overall in the Report and secured the top spot in the Earth Sciences Top 10, while AOSL ranked 46th in the top 100 and fourth in the Earth Sciences category.
"We are honored that our commitment to bringing scientists' work to the international community has been recognized,” said Ling Zhou, executive editor of AAS. “This acknowledgment not only reflects our dedication but also reinforces scientists' trust in AAS and encourages them to share their discoveries. Looking back, EurekAlert!—which we have used for over eight years—has been instrumental in helping us achieve this high ranking in international science communication. The training courses and News Release Assisting Program provided by EurekAlert! have also been invaluable in enhancing our communication efforts."
AAS is co-published by Springer and Science Press and AOSL by KeAi. With their focus on quality and accessibility, both journals will continue contributing to international scientific discourse.
