The Polyphenols Applications 2024 congress, held in Milan in September 2024, awarded the prestigious Best Scientific Contribution Award 2024 to Prof. José M. Estrela from the University of Valencia. This recognition honors his outstanding research titled "Polyphenols in Oncotherapy: Moving Forward from the Bench to Clinical Applications". Prof. Estrela's work is focused on overcoming the challenge of polyphenols' poor bioavailability in vivo, with the aim of enhancing their potential use in cancer treatment.

Prof. Estrela’s presentation at the congress covered key areas of research, including:

- Combining Hyperthermia, Electromagnetic Fields, Chemotherapy, and Polyphenols: He discussed the rationale for this combination, emphasizing the potential synergistic effects and mechanisms of action that could significantly enhance cancer treatment outcomes.

- Preclinical Evidence Supporting Combination Therapy: Prof. Estrela summarized preclinical studies demonstrating the efficacy of combining hyperthermia, electromagnetic fields, chemotherapy, and polyphenols, highlighting evidence of tumor regression and enhanced cancer cell death.

- Translating Preclinical Findings to Clinical Applications: He outlined the steps necessary to bring these preclinical findings into clinical practice, covering regulatory considerations, clinical trial design, and patient safety assessments.

- Challenges and Limitations: Prof. Estrela acknowledged potential challenges, such as variability in patient responses, treatment resistance, and the need for personalized treatment approaches to optimize therapeutic efficacy.
