The European Society of Endocrinology (ESE) is delighted to announce that the first Editor-in-Chief of its new journal, Obesity and Endocrinology, is Professor Melania Manco. Professor Manco will be supported by an editorial board and associate editors renowned in the field of obesity and with a strong background in endocrinology.
Obesity and Endocrinology is dedicated to advancing and understanding obesity through comprehensive coverage of basic, translational and clinical aspects of endocrinology. The launch issue is scheduled for Q2 2025, and submissions are now being welcomed via the Journal’s website.
Jérôme Bertherat, ESE President, said: “I am delighted that Melania will be the first Editor-in-Chief of ESE’s new Obesity and Endocrinology journal. She has more than 20 years’ clinical and research experience in the field of obesity, nutrition, and insulin resistance as well as a strong editorial background. She is dedicated to advancing the field of obesity particularly on the paediatric side, and the journal will benefit from her strong international network especially well-developed in Europe.”
Professor Manco is a clinical research scientist and consultant endocrinologist at the Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome, Italy. She holds a Ph.D. in nutrition and metabolism, and in 2020 was awarded National Habilitation as a Full Professor of Endocrinology.
Professor Manco is also an active member of several professional societies, including serving as co-chair of the EASO Collaborating Centres for Obesity Management (COMs) Working Group, board member of the Italian Society of Obesity (SIO) and from 2017-2019, Chair of the Obesity Study Group within the Italian Society of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology (SIEDP). She has been involved in journal editorial boards since 2008.
Professor Manco said: “I am thrilled and honoured to take up this position as the first Editor-in-Chief of Obesity and Endocrinology. As an endocrinologist with a robust expertise in obesity, I aspire to leverage my experience and insights to serve as a unifying voice, bridging the realms of endocrinology and metabolic science together within the endocrine community”.

I look forward to working with the editorial board to further advance the understanding of obesity, what will set us apart is our almost exclusive focus on the endocrine aspects of this complex disease.”
