22 April 2024 – From 7-10 May 2024, members of the Global Young Academy (GYA) – distinguished early- to mid-career scientists (ECRs) and scholars from around the world – will convene in Washington, D.C., to ignite interdisciplinary projects, induct 45 new GYA members, elect new leadership, and discuss the organisation’s strategic direction.
Together with the meeting’s hosts, the New Voices in Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NVs), the GYA will hold an International Conference of Young Scientists on the topic “Transformative and Inclusive Science for a Sustainable Future”, from 8-9 May 2024 and bring together 150+ young scientists from more than 70 countries to engage with U.S.-based experts and STEM leaders.
The AGM and Conference are supported by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. All Conference events and workshops will be held at the National Academy of Sciences Building on 2101 Constitution Avenue, Washington, D.C.

Programme Highlights
This year’s AGM and Conference will include seven workshops, four Conference panels with renowned speakers, a U.S. Partnerships Expo, and countless opportunities for attendees to network and collaborate.
Conference Workshops
Workshops are organised by GYA Working Groups in collaboration with partner organisations. Participant numbers are limited; registration for individual workshops is a prerequisite to participation.

Opening Panel
This session will discuss the role of regional and global socio-political and socio-economic environments and the tension between competition and collaboration in reaching a sustainable and inclusive future for all.

Plenary Panel I: “Bridging the Gap and Paving the Way for Future Leaders”
This panel will focus on how different programs and initiatives are structured to promote new scientists at various national and international venues, and the benefits and challenges associated with such initiatives.

This session will discuss the basic difference between science innovation and transformation and the intricate process needed, through multi-stakeholder partnerships (such as university-industry collaborations and public-private partnerships), to establish innovative and transformative science and how to deal with challenges that hinder such progress.

This networking event brings together stakeholders from science and research institutions, science policy organizations, foundations, academies and other organizations from across the United States.
About the Global Young Academy
The vision of the GYA is science for all; science for the future, and its mission is to give a voice to young scientists and researchers around the world. The GYA, founded in 2010, is an independent science academy of 200 outstanding early- to mid-career researchers from six continents who are selected from across disciplines based on their academic excellence and commitment to engage with society. GYA members serve five-year terms, and the GYA presently counts members and alumni from 100 countries. The GYA administrative Office is publicly funded and hosted at the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. The wide array of GYA activities are supported by a range of international public and private funders.
About New Voices in Sciences, Engineering and Medicine
New Voices in Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is a cohort-based leadership program that promotes collaboration among outstanding early- and mid-career scientists, engineers, and medical professionals during a two-year term of service. The program aims to expand the diversity of expertise engaged in the convening and advisory functions of the National Academies while building a network of emerging U.S. leaders to address national and global challenges.
