The Surgical Infection Society (SIS) is pleased to announce that Robert G. Sawyer, MD has been selected as the new Editor-in-Chief of the Surgical Infections journal.
It is with deep appreciation for our outgoing leadership and with great excitement for the future that we announce today that Robert G. Sawyer, MD, Senior Associate Dean for Research and Chair of the Department of Surgery at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine, will assume the role of Editor-in-Chief of Surgical Infections.
The entire publishing team sincerely thanks Donald E. Fry, MD, for his many years of leadership, hard work and dedication to the publication and the field. Dr. Sawyer is a long-time contributor and advocate for the Journal and ready to continue the standards of excellence.
Dr. Sawyer graduated from the University of Michigan with a BS in Biomedical Sciences in 1984 and an MD in 1986. He finished a general surgery residency at the University of Virginia in 1994 and a transplant surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan in 1996. He finished a surgical critical care fellowship at the University of Virginia in 2003 and became professor of Surgery at the University of Virginia in 2008. He is now Professor and Chair of Surgery at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker School of Medicine and his research is in infectious diseases and nutrition.
