The focal point of the conference „EstMil.tech – Military Technologies: Challenges for Small State“ will be discussions on modern military technologies, covering aspects such as the role of AI and IT in future warfare, electronic warfare, and defence industry on the example of small states. The discussions will also cover funding of research and development in the field of defence.
The Estonian Military Academy, which is one of the organizers of the conference, wishes to strengthen cooperation between research institutions, defence industries and the defence forces within the framework of the conference.
The keynote speakers for the EstMil conference are General (ret) Jörg Vollmer, Fraunhofer FKIE, former Chief of the German Army and former Commander of Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum, and Prof. Dr Wolfgang Koch, Fraunhofer FKIE/University of Bonn.
TalTech’s Professor of Cyber Operations, Rain Ottis, will also participate in the conference, sharing insight on a range of innovative technologies. “Today, scientists, engineers, and military professionals are exploring the potential of AI, quantum computing and quantum communication, assessing their practicality for use. Undoubtedly, there are technologies that one may opt not to use, as they can breach certain moral and economic boundaries. However, a debate on these issues is very necessary,” Ottis said.
The speakers at the conference will include members of the Defence Forces and scientists from Tallinn University of Technology, the Estonian Military Academy, the NATO Innovation Fund and the company SensusQ. At the conference, there is a demo area that provides companies with the opportunity to showcase their research-based and innovative solutions, and on the first day, there will be a posters session introducing the latest research results.
