HKU ranks 13th globally among all institutions this year by Clarivate with 55 designations, i.e., Including those awarded in multiple academic fields, of its academics listed under “Highly Cited Researchers 2023”.
HKU has 50 academics named this year, which marks the highest number of HKU scholars to be included on the list. The University's significant rise in ranking also contributes to Hong Kong's ascent into the list of top 10 regions and nations for 2023, according to Clarivate Analytics.
A total of 6,849 scholars from 67 countries and regions worldwide have been named Highly Cited Researchers in 2023. Including those awarded in multiple academic fields, the total number of designations this year reaches 7,125, with 3,793 specialising in distinct academic disciplines and 3,332 significantly impacting interdisciplinary research. Their scholarly works have been extensively cited by international peers, showcasing their considerable influence within the academic sphere.
This year, HKU has experienced a continued increase in the number of selected scholars, maintaining the highest representation among local universities. Highly Cited Researchers are selected for their exceptional research performance, determined by production of multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in Web of Science during 2012-2022.
