The Flow Cell with the oscillating catalytic system (IMAGE)
Caption
The figure illustrates the concept of oscillatory catalysis (left) and observation of oscillations (right). The chemical reaction network that consists of five reactions and is responsible for the oscillatory behavior of the catalyst is shown on the white background of the flask. The coupled chemical reaction that is catalyzed periodically by the oscillator is shown on the blue background of the flask. All these reactions take place in the same flask with continuous inflow of reagents and outflow of reaction mixture. The oscillations in the flask are monitored with in situ infrared spectroscopy.
