To detect molecules present at both high and low concentrations simultaneously, the researchers created different signal modulation frequencies. They used high frequency laser modulation to distinguish single particles at low concentrations and low frequency laser modulation detected large signals from many particles simultaneously at high concentrations. The image shows the optical setup and the custom-developed control software in operation.
