(IMAGE) Tokyo Medical and Dental University Caption In normal conditions, active FAK acts as a component of focal adhesions. Upon genotoxic stress, however, Nrf2 drives the expression of the Frnk gene, whereas active FAK is reduced via lysosomal degradation. This results in FAK/FRNK replacement in focal adhesions, and this remodelling counteracts genotoxic stress in normal as well as pathological tissues by enhancing cell adhesion.
