A comparison of the main airway and skull elements of dinosaurs and birds.

Caption

Velociraptors likely had less efficient nasal brain cooling than present-day birds. Their maxillary bone degenerated and moved downwards as they evolved to extant birds, thus allowing expansion of the nasal cavity and enabling efficient nasal cooling.
