Prof Kim Schumacher specializes in ESG, which stands for “environment, society and governance.” He coined the term “competence greenwashing” that represents “the practice of intentional or negligent misrepresentation of knowledge, skills, competences, or expertise relating to sustainability or ESG-related activities.” It underpins the problematic trend in which businesses may appoint so-called sustainability or ESG experts who do not have the skillset to address the matter adequately. This puts businesses, the environment, and society at risk.
