Caption
These images show chloroplasts in an Elodea densa plant cell (green), overlayed by their tracked movements over twenty minutes. The colour of the movement track represents the distance covered, as indicated by the colour bar on the right. When placed under a dim red light (top), the chloroplasts are immobilized in a glassy state. Under a bright white light (bottom), they instead enter a liquid-like state in which they move around a lot. Image by Nico Schramma (UvA).
