Measuring ant temperatures for a climate study (IMAGE)
Caption
This photo shows an ant thermometer for the chestnut carpenter ant (Camponotus castaneus), made from a posed ant specimen mounted on a thermocouple temperature sensor. Different species foraging in the same place at the same time can experience different temperatures because of their different body sizes and colors. An ant thermometer incorporates these differences.
