Southwest Research Institute used image microscopy to create a more effective, comprehensive method of characterizing erosion in wire-wrapped sand screens used in oil and gas wells, with warmer colors representing larger gaps. Using the technique, the industry could more accurately predict the functional life of the screen at a particular well condition.
