Roy Kirsch loading a third-generation sequencer: So-called nanopore sequencing made it possible to decode the genome of the model beetle Phaedon cochleariae. This was the prerequisite for subsequent genome editing based on the CRISPR-Cas9 technology, as well as for the characterization (genotyping) of the beetle lines generated in this way (knockout mutants that no longer had pectinases).
