The Alfred Wegener Institute’s Ocean Floor Observation System (OFOS), operated from the research icebreaker POLARSTERN, depicts a community of dozens of sponges, ranging in diameter from the size of one centimeter to half a meter, so dense it almost cover Langseth Ridge’s upper peaks.
