Regeneration and the Immune System in Zebrafish (VIDEO)
Caption
At homeostasis, or before inducing hair cell death within the zebrafish sensory organs (red), macrophage cells (blue) reside both throughout the entire zebrafish as well as adjacent to the sensory organs. Two hours into the process, adjacent macrophages quickly invade the neuromast to begin the cleanup of dead cells and debris, and trigger surrounding tissues to begin replacing the dead cells.
