SwRI Autonomous Shuttle Software (IMAGE) Southwest Research Institute Caption Visual data from sensors and machine vision algorithms are displayed on a monitor inside Southwest Research Institute’s 14-passenger automated shuttle. The shuttle utilizes SwRI-developed Ranger technology – which uses algorithms to match stored images of roadway surfaces with live images from ground-facing cameras – maintain the vehicle’s roadway position to within 2 centimeters. Lidar data enables the vehicle to observe its surroundings and react to pedestrians, vehicles and other objects.
