3D model of the Nankai subduction zone (VIDEO)
Caption
The pluton appears as a red bulge (indicating dense rock) in the center of this 3D visualization by researchers at The University of Texas at Austin. The pluton is large enough to interfere with the nearby Nankai subduction zone and, most likely, also the region’s earthquakes. White circles mark the location of earthquakes.
