The thick black line represents the time series of the regional average frequency of drought days (FDD), and the gray-shaded area shows the historical value range based on the minimum and maximum values observed during the reference period (1865-2005). When the time series of the statistics deviates from the experienced historical range consecutively for x-years, TFEx is defined as the first year of the x-year period. For example, TFEs with x=3-15, including TFE5, are the years indicated by the orange arrows.
