Vesicle recycling

Caption

Exocytosis and endocytosis are key steps in vesicle recycling. Exocytosis increases the surface area of the presynaptic terminal membrane, and endocytosis reduces the surface area, so by electrically measuring the surface area of the terminal membrane, scientists can determine if the one of these steps is impaired.
