The ATPase activity is inactivated during the evening and night, but recovers autonomously at dawn and is further activated in the morning (left upper panel). The relative position of a catalytic water molecule determines the reaction efficiency (right upper panel). Protein complexes are autonomously disassembled by KaiA-assisted auto-catalytic activation of dual ATPases to terminate the subjective night (lower panel).
