Blood flow by line scanning (VIDEO)
Caption
Dr. David Hartmann likens watching blood flow by line scanning (a two-photo imaging approach for measuring capillary flow) to watching the computer screen in The Matrix. "There are streaks and dots on the computer screen that represent individual red blood cells passing through capillaries," he said. "When I stimulated my first pericyte, and the red blood cells slowed down and stopped flowing, I thought 'this might actually work.'"
