Toxic Runoff Affects Fish Behavior (VIDEO)
Caption
This is an adult coho salmon exposed under experimental conditions to toxic highway runoff, clean well water, and highway runoff filtered through experimental soil columns. Fish exposed to raw stormwater showed symptoms of toxic exposure including lethargy and disorientation, while fish in clean water showed no symptoms. Fish exposed to stormwater after it was filtered through experimental soil columns also showed no symptoms of toxic exposure, indicating that the toxic impacts were prevented.
