Perovskite Breakthrough Holds Promise of Inexpensive Solar Cells (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers demonstrated that spray coating a rough layer of the negatively charged compound PCBM in a solar cell 'sandwich' gives the already-promising alternative to silicon-based solar cells, perovskite, new potential for low-cost mass production. The crystalline structure of perovskite was difficult to cover uniformly using prior deposition methods and substances. With the new method, the researchers reported a 30 percent improvement in power conversion efficiency versus other coatings, applied by spin casting.
