Humanoid 'CommU' (IMAGE) Japan Science and Technology Agency Caption "CommU" provides a new form of conversation for a conversational robot. It is designed to act within a group of robots, in which two or more robots can have a conversation together with a human. This scenario can make the human feel a higher level of the "sense of conversing" by the robot. For that, CommU is equipped with different motion units with a high degree of freedom: the eyeball unit, the head unit and the body unit. With regards to these units in addition to the ordinary verbal communications, the robot becomes able to express nonverbal information with different methods, e.g. a various type of gaze. With using this method, the robot would be able to have some human-like "subtle" social behavior, which is expected to increase the "sense of conversing" with the robot.
