Formation of Singlet Oxygen (IMAGE) Graz University of Technology Caption The formation of singlet oxygen (1O?) impairs the cycle stability of many alkali metal cathodes such as the Li-O? cathode. In the journal Angewandte Chemie Freunberger presents an efficient and high-voltage stable 1O? extinguisher. It shows that the extinguisher massively reduces 1O?-related side reactions. High-voltage stable extinguishers are relevant to control the 1O?-related interfacial reactivity and long-term stability of many cathodes.
