Figure 1 shows the new 3D matrix probe and images obtained in the femoral artery. A small protrusion can be observed in the vessel wall, corresponding to an atherosclerotic plaque (arrow) in the common artery just before the bifurcation. For comparison, Figure 2 shows a pre-matrix, linear mechanical 3D ultrasound probe, together with images obtained with this probe of the same artery shown in image 1.
